The ATLAS detector: status and performance in Run-II
نویسنده
چکیده
During the first extended shutdown of the LHC, in 2013 and 2014, the ATLAS detector has undergone several improvements. A new silicon pixel detector layer has been added inside of the existing layers, enhancing vertex identification, while the coverage of the muon detector has been significantly expanded. Many other detector systems have been upgraded to handle the higher expected pileup conditions in the coming years and to generally improve their performance. This document describes these upgrades and the resulting impact on the reconstruction and performance of standard physics objects. Preliminary results using the first ∼ 80 pb−1 of 2015 data at √ s = 13 TeV are presented, demonstrating the capability of ATLAS to perform both searches and measurements.

متن کاملATLAS Inner Tracker Performance at the beginning of the LHC Run - 2 . ∗
The ATLAS experiment performs studies of proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The Inner Detector is a part of the ATLAS apparatus placed nearest the interaction point, designed to measure charged particles momenta and their trajectories, and to reconstruct vertices of decays of physics objects created in collisions. During the LHC technical stop 2013-2015, the In...
متن کاملImprovements to ATLAS Track Reconstruction for Run II
Run II of the LHC will provide new challenges to track and vertex reconstruction with higher energies, denser jets and higher rates. A major change to the Inner Detector layout during the shutdown period has been the installation of the Insertable B-Layer, a fourth pixel layer located at a radius of 33 mm. This contribution discusses improvements to track reconstruction developed during the two...
متن کاملATLAS Inner Detector: Commissioning with Cosmics Data
The ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has started taking data in Autumn 2008 with the inauguration of the LHC. The determination of vertex position and charged particle tracks is performed in the Inner Detector which consists of pixel and microstrip silicon sensors and of straw drift tubes with transition radiation detector capability. All three subdetectors were run in s...
متن کاملStatus and Performance of the CDF Run II Silicon Detector
The CDF Run II silicon detector with its 8 layers of doubleand single-sided silicon micro strip sensors and a total 722,432 readout channels is one of the largest silicon detector devices currently in use by a HEP experiment. We report our experience commissioning and operating this complex device during the first 4 years of Run II. As the luminosity delivered by the Tevatron collider increases...
